Offerings:

·       Mid-America Reformed Seminary glorifies God by training godly men to serve in the ministry of the Word and sacraments. The health of the church and society depends upon the faithful ministry of the Word of God. Mid-America's primary purpose is training men to serve the church as knowledgeable pastors with servants' hearts.

·       Pro-Life is where they "courageously protect and preserve human life from conception to natural death by changing the attitude and mindset of the public about the inherent value of a human life, regardless of the function or ability of a particular human life, and to do so through education, advice support, example, and the offering of viable alternatives to actions that destroy life." (we are only able to accept cash for this cause; no tokens or cheques).

Announcements from Council

Church Family:  Mr. Dirk Stolk was re-admitted to the Red Deer Hospital this past week and submitted to emergency surgery. Let us remember him and all those with on-going health concerns. Do not hide Your face from me in the day of my trouble; incline Your ear to me; in the day that I call answer me speedily (Psalm 102:2).

New Elders: Thursday evening elections were held for new elders. The following elders were elected and will be installed in September if there are no lawful objections: Jan-Willem Rodenburg and Scott Ingwersen.

Goodbye to the Lievaarts: This Sunday is the Lievaarts’ last with us. We thank them for their time and efforts among us, and we pray that the Lord will bless them richly as they continue to prepare for the ministry. The congregation is invited to express their appreciation and well wishes to Simon, Jodi, and Joash in a special time of fellowship after the afternoon worship service today.

For those who contributed household items for the use of the Lievaarts you can pick them up at the house on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. till 9:00 p.m.

Banns of Marriage: Mr. Scott Wright and Miss Vanessa Thalen have signified their desire to be united in marriage. If there are no lawful objections, the ceremony will take place on August 29, 2008, here at Parkland Reformed Church in Ponoka.

Adult Bible Study Material: Two books were chosen for the adult Bible study groups this season. Amos by Henry Vander Kam is a study of the minor prophet who spoke to Israel during a time of idolatry and complacency. Credo by Dr. J. De Jong is an overview of the Church’s confession as summarized in the Three Forms of Unity. If you would like a refresher course in Reformed doctrine this is a very good study. Once again this year the Consistory strongly encourages all eligible members to attend these studies. Christ commands us to grow in grace and knowledge (2Peter 3:18). Let us be diligent in this least we become complacent or stagnant in our faith.

August 17, 2008 Jesus: Made in America

In what ways has our American culture shaped the ways in which we think about the person and work of Christ? That's the focus of this edition of the White Horse Inn as Michael Horton talks with Stephen Nichols, author of Jesus: Made in America, recently published by Inter-Varsity Press.

August 24, 2008 American Deism

Many argue that America has always been a Christian nation and that the founding fathers f our nation were Bible-believing Christians. But is this really the case? On this edition of the program the hosts explore the subject of Deism, particularly in the writings of America 's founding fathers, but also in the life and practice of contemporary American Christianity.
