·       The Evangelical Fellowship of Canada is committed to helping Christians make a greater impact in mission, ministry and witness. Connecting to ministry resources is another means of increasing ministry effectiveness.

·       The Mustard Seed ( Edmonton ) has been dedicated to meeting the physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of people in Edmonton 's inner city since 1988. Although TMS parishioners include a large aboriginal and metis population, we do not turn anyone away. Those with substance abuse problems; ex-inmates trying to reestablish; the poor and homeless looking for acceptance; and others disadvantaged due to lack of education, behavioral problems or physical impairments all frequent our community drop-in. TMS offers the ability to explore spiritual issues and participate in Christian community. They also provide personal assistance like household goods, clothes and emergency food and community activities like cooking and sports.

Announcements from Council

Church Family:  We rejoice with Greg and Melissa Petersen who were blessed with a healthy baby girl, Sarah Mackenzie weighing in at 6 lbs 14 oz.  Both mother and baby are doing well.  We give thanks that Elly Marye Ingwersen is home safely and continues to do well. Let us remember those in our midst with on-going illness. May the Lord watch over us as we work and play this summer.  But now the Lord says: Far be it from Me; for those who honor Me I will honor, and those who despise Me shall be lightly esteemed (1Samuel 2:30b).

Nominations: Council came up with the following names for nominations: Scott Ingwersen, Jan Willem Rodenburg, Dirk Stolk (jr). 2 to be elected on August 14 congregational meeting.

Evaluation Forms:  Please note that if you have been given an evaluation form it needs to be filled out and returned to Rev. Ramkissoon. Tapes of the sermons are available if needed. This is a vital part of our help to Simon as he prepares for the ministry. Thank you. The Consistory.

Membership: Consistory has approved membership of Fred Martena from the Free Reformed Church in Lacombe and Jonathan & Candace Slomp with their baptized children Haley and Adrianna from the Imanuel Canadian Reformed Church in Edmonton .

As part of his psychiatric nursing program Jonathan is required to make a presentation on a topic of his choosing. The information being presented will help us better understand why illegal drugs are dangerous, and encourage safer life choices. This presentation will be given on August 14 at the Congregational Meeting. All members young and old are encouraged to attend. In a day when drugs are easily accessible, and used by children as young as nine years old, let us be informed as to their effects.

From the Voice of the Martyrs: China - Pray for protection for Pastor Bike Zhang and his wife who have been tortured and  are now living on the street. Police forced them out of several locations because Pastor Zhang had a meeting with American officials.  Pray that they will be assured of the Lord's never-ending love, even in the midst of trying circumstances (Ephesians 3:14-19).  Pray for the nation of China and the Chinese church at large as the Olympics are to begin soon

Whitehorse Inn Topics

August 3, 2008 Calling the Sheep to Become "Self-Feeders?"

A recent study conducted by Willow Creek Community Church discovered that the most committed among their church members were the most vocal about the lack of theological depth, and were among the the most dissatisfied with the worship. Yet the conclusion to the report was that Willow Creek needs to do a better job encouraging their members to become "self-feeders." The hosts will discuss this report, and offer some conclusions of their own on this edition of the White Horse Inn.

August 10, 2008 American Deism

Is Deism on the rise? It is according to sociologist Christian Smith, who coined the term "moralistic, therapeutic deism" to describe the beliefs of America 's religious teens after his five-year study. What is the history of American Deism, and why is it making an apparent comeback? Tune in to find out on this edition of the White Horse Inn.

August 17, 2008 Jesus: Made in America

In what ways has our American culture shaped the ways in which we think about the person and work of Christ? That's the focus of this edition of the White Horse Inn as Michael Horton talks with Stephen Nichols, author of Jesus: Made in America, recently published by Inter-Varsity Press.

August 24, 2008 American Deism

Many argue that America has always been a Christian nation and that the founding fathers f our nation were Bible-believing Christians. But is this really the case? On this edition of the program the hosts explore the subject of Deism, particularly in the writings of America 's founding fathers, but also in the life and practice of contemporary American Christianity.
