Announcements from Council

Church Family: We give thanks that the Lord was again faithful to His promises as He watched over Danna Hoeksema through childbirth. Tyler John (7lbs 12 ozs)  will receive the sacrament of baptism this morning. Let us continue to remember those in our midst with on-going illness. The Lord will perfect that which concerns me; your mercy, O Lord, endures forever; do not forsake the works of your hands (Psalm 138:8).

New Elders: We are in need of 2 new elders and we ask the congregation for nominations. There are nomination slips in your mail-boxes and we would ask you kindly to nominate 2 members for elder. 2nd Annual URC Soccer Tournament  August 2 and 4, 2008 in Edmonton

Games will again be held at Taylor University College on the South End of Edmonton, 11525-23 Ave.

Round robin format on Saturday with semis and finals on Monday. Cost is $275 per team for field rentals, bar-b-que, officials and T’s to winners.  It is a co-ed tournament with a requirement to have at least (you may have more) 4 females on the field at all times.  You, as a church are encouraged to recruit non-Church members as players but let the purpose be evangelism - ie. Don’t recruit members of another church just because they are good players and will thus enhance your chance of winning!!  Officials will be our church league refs (non-carded) for round robin and D.V. carded refs for the semis and finals - Edmonton is experiencing a dearth of refs and when you can get them the cost is

prohibitive!!  Billets will be provided free of charge for all teams requesting them, but please let us know by July 26th what your needs are. There will be post-tournament bar-b-que on Saturday night for all players - cost of this is included in tournament entry. Lunch times Saturday and Monday you are on your own at many local fast food restaurants. Please communicate intent to enter by phone 780-479-1860 or email peterwright5@hotmail.com or by phone to Pete Wright by July 16th.

From the Voice of the Martyrs: Iran - Makan Arya and Tina Rad were arrested and tortured having to leave their sick four-year-old daughter behind unattended for four days. Pray for healing, especially for Tina who currently cannot walk as a result of her mistreatment in detention.  Ask God to strengthen the hearts of these believers to proclaim His Name without hesitation or fear (2 Timothy 1:5).  Pray that they will rest in the knowledge that the Good Shepherd walks with them through this difficult time (Psalm 23).

Whitehorse Inn Topics

July 13, 2008 American Pelagianism

Why have the doctrines of grace been so difficult to take root in the American soil? What is it about the way we think and act as a people that makes Pelagianism so common, if not our very "default setting?" On this edition of the White Horse Inn, the hosts will continue their discussion of Pelagianism, with a particular focus on its influence in American religion and practice.

July 20, 2008 The Glory Story

On this edition of the White Horse Inn the hosts discuss the influence of both Pelagianism and Gnosticism in the American religious landscape. And the net result is what they refer to as "the Glory Story." In contrast to the theology of glory, however, the hosts make a case for recovering a clear understanding of the "theology of the cross."

July 27, 2008 Who Needs Church?

In his recent book Revolution, George Barna suggests that Christians no longer need to join churches, but rather should simply look for life-coaches, and helpful information for spiritual growth via the internet. But can we simply do away with Church? What is the true role of the church? That's what's on tap this week at the White Horse Inn.

Can be heard on Edmonton : CJCA, 930AM: Sunday, 8:30AM and High River : CHRB, 1140AM: Sundays, 9pm live, or if you missed it can be heard online from: http://www.oneplace.com/ministries/The_White_Horse_Inn
