Funds are also available to parents in our congregation to assist them in having their children attend local Christian schools.

·       The Champion's Centre Inc. is a not for profit Christian charity organization that provides permanent low-income housing to the disadvantaged and homeless. The Champion's Centre offers room and board to between 12-18 tenants with basic amenities, while also operating a café and antique shop at the same location. The café and antique shop generate a source of income for the centre apart from donations and fund-raising. The goal of The Champion's Centre is to encourage people who struggle to live independently to reintegrate back into society primarily by providing a setting where tenants can experience a meaningful sense of community affiliation.

Announcements from Council

Church Family: Let us continue to remember those in our midst still recovering and healing from surgeries, and those with on-going illness. May the Lord watch over those families on or going on vacation. Pray for our marriages and for parents as we raise our children. The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in His way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; for the Lord holds him with His hand (Psalm 37:23).

Next Lord’s Day: As part of the Alberta-wide pulpit exchange Rev. Ramkissoon will be preaching in Grande Prairie next Sunday. Our summer student Mr. Simon Lievaart will be leading both services here in Ponoka.

Ladies Fellowship: All ladies are welcome to come to the year-end gathering for Ladies Fellowship!  We are planning a beach day for this week Tuesday, July 22, at Aspen Beach from 1-4pm.  We will meet at the playground and ask that you bring your own lawn chairs and drinks, and a snack to share with everyone.  If weather is not permitting, we will change the date to the 23rd of July.  Hope to see you there!!!

Painters Needed: Come on out to help us finish painting the second coat at Ponoka Christian School on July 28 and 29 @ 9 am. We have had such great support so far and are d.v. hoping to finish it these last two days. If your gifts do not lie in holding a paint brush or roller, but you are still willing to lend a hand, we would love to see help in some last minute cleaning. God has richly blessed us with a beautiful building and how better to glorify Him than to show our duty and responsibility to care for what He has given us! Questions….contact Alice Nieuland 783-5882 or Inge Meinen 783-2423

Volunteers Needed!  Looking for some fun-loving energetic people who love to be with young people. We need some volunteers to help out at the annual Teen Club camp out to be held August 11 & 12. We need some cooks and someone with good game ideas and willing to be chaperones.  It is a really fun time!  If you can help out please call Wilma Makkinga at 782 0494.

2nd Annual URC Soccer Tournament  August 2 and 4, 2008 in Edmonton

Games will again be held at Taylor University College on the South End of Edmonton, 11525-23 Ave. Round robin format on Saturday with semis and finals on Monday. Cost is $275 per team for field rentals, bar-b-que, officials and T’s to winners.  It is a co-ed tournament with a requirement to have at least (you may have more) 4 females on the field at all times.  You, as a church are encouraged to recruit non-Church members as players but let the purpose be evangelism - ie. Don’t recruit members of another church just because they are good players and will thus enhance your chance of winning!!  Officials will be our church league refs (non-carded) for round robin and D.V. carded refs for the semis and finals - Edmonton is experiencing a dearth of refs and when you can get them the cost is prohibitive!!  Billets will be provided free of charge for all teams requesting them, but please let us know by July 26th what your needs are. There will be post-tournament bar-b-que on Saturday night for all players - cost of this is included in tournament entry. Lunch times Saturday and Monday you are on your own at many local fast food restaurants. Please communicate intent to enter by phone 780-479-1860 or email peterwright5@hotmail.com or by phone to Pete Wright by July 16th.

From the Voice of the Martyrs: Sri Lanka - Ask God to strengthen and heal the pastor and five members of Calvary Church in Thlahena after a mob attacked and beat them with clubs and completely destroying the contents of the church. Pray that the faithfulness of Christians in Sri Lanka will be a light that draws others to Christ (Matthew 5:14-16). Pray that the Gospel message will continue to grow and that many will come to Christ, despite the opposition.

Whitehorse Inn Topics

July 20, 2008 The Glory Story

On this edition of the White Horse Inn the hosts discuss the influence of both Pelagianism and Gnosticism in the American religious landscape. And the net result is what they refer to as "the Glory Story." In contrast to the theology of glory, however, the hosts make a case for recovering a clear understanding of the "theology of the cross."

July 27, 2008 Who Needs Church?

In his recent book Revolution, George Barna suggests that Christians no longer need to join churches, but rather should simply look for life-coaches, and helpful information for spiritual growth via the internet. But can we simply do away with Church? What is the true role of the church? That's what's on tap this week at the White Horse Inn.

August 3, 2008 Calling the Sheep to Become "Self-Feeders?"

A recent study conducted by Willow Creek Community Church discovered that the most committed among their church members were the most vocal about the lack of theological depth, and were among the the most dissatisfied with the worship. Yet the conclusion to the report was that Willow Creek needs to do a better job encouraging their members to become "self-feeders." The hosts will discuss this report, and offer some conclusions of their own on this edition of the White Horse Inn.

August 10, 2008 American Deism

Is Deism on the rise? It is according to sociologist Christian Smith, who coined the term "moralistic, therapeutic deism" to describe the beliefs of America 's religious teens after his five-year study. What is the history of American Deism, and why is it making an apparent comeback? Tune in to find out on this edition of the White Horse Inn.
