Announcements from Council

Church Family: Our deepest condolences go out to the Rodenburg family as Jolanda’s mother was called to her heavenly home this past Thursday. May the God of all comfort draw near with His serenity and consolation.  We also extend our joyous congratulations to Garry and Bethany Stolk as they were united in marriage this past Saturday. May the Lord bless them richly as they begin their lives together. Mrs. Winnie Lindemulder continues to do well as she heals from her hip replacement surgery.  Remember the elderly, the grieving, and those with on-going health concerns. I will lift up my eyes to the hills. From whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth (Psalm 121:1-2).

Banns of Marriage: Mr. Ferdinand VanderVlugt and Miss Sandra Lindemulder have signified their desire to be united in marriage. If there are no lawful objections, the ceremony will take place on June 21st 2008 here at Parkland Reformed Church in Ponoka.

From the Deacons:   We have contacted Word and Deed about the earthquake in China and they're quite confident that they can find a Christian group or family in China to distribute funds. In the rare case that they can not make this work, funds will be used for disaster relief elsewhere like in Burma and Africa . They are very busy contacting Christian organizations to get disaster relief to China and urge people to donate for the earth quake victims because they are sure that soon we can distribute funds. Because of this conversation with Word and Deed we would like to continue and have a collection this Sunday AM and PM for disaster relief in China .
Thank you from the deacons.

Summer Student: With thankfulness to our God we welcome our summer student who will be worshipping with us today. Please take a moment to introduce yourself and welcome Simon, Jodie, and Joash Lievaart personally. A heartfelt thank-you to all who contributed so generously to the Lievaarts’ home and pantry. May the Lord bless their time with us.

Attention:  Christian School Supporters:  At the present time the government is discussing the issue of funding for Private Schools. Therefore, the Association of Independent Schools and Colleges of Alberta (A.I.S.C.A.) is asking for your help to lobby the government for more funding by writing letters to the Premier, Minister of Education and your local M.L.A.  Increased funding will greatly benefit your local Christian School . There is an information package available at your church which includes helpful guidelines.  If you need assistance in writing letters, come to L.C.S. West Campus Library on June 18, 08 from 7:00-9:00 PM. Please consider getting involved – now is the time to use your voice!

(NOTE:  All Ponoka Christian School , Lacombe Christian School and Central Alberta Christian High School members will have the package mailed out to them.)

From the Voice of the Martyrs: India - A Hindu nationalist leader from the Bharatiay Janata Party was elected as the chief minister of Karnaka State , ask God to embolden Christians in Karnataka to remain steadfast as they suffer for the sake of Christ (Rev. 2:10). Pray that those who persecute Christians will see Christ's grace and mercy and be reconciled to Him. Pray that those who seek to hinder the work of the Church in India will see the love and grace of Jesus in the lives of Indian Christians.

Whitehorse Inn Topics

June 15, 2008 Using God: The Gospel of Pragmatism

Why do so many sermons and Bible Studies focus almost entirely on "practical" application? Is a particular belief true simply because it works for you? On this edition of the White Horse Inn, the hosts take a look at the philosophy of Pragmatism and its effects on contemporary Christian thought and practice.

June 22, 2008 Repentance & Personal Transformation

On the last edition of the White Horse Inn, the hosts discussed the problems associated with a pragmatic approach to the Christian faith. But does the Christian faith make a difference in a person's life? Is there a real "life-change?" How are we to think about remaining sin? These and other questions will be dealt with this week on the WHI.

June 29, 2008 Jesus, James & Paul

Do the messages of Jesus and Paul sometimes contradict one other? And what about James? Doesn't he teach that we are "justified by works, and not by faith alone"? Do various Biblical authors teach different theologies? That's what's on tap this week at the White Horse Inn (Originally broadcast on May 28th, 2006).

Can be heard on Edmonton : CJCA, 930AM: Sunday, 8:30AM and High River : CHRB, 1140AM: Sundays, 9pm live, or if you missed it can be heard online from: http://www.oneplace.com/ministries/The_White_Horse_Inn
