Announcements from Council

Church Family: We give thanks to the Lord as Gary and Bethany Stolk, who were married last week Saturday, and Ferdinand and Sandra Vandervlugt, who were married yesterday, begin their lives together. May our God grant these young couples many years of health and happiness.  Remember the elderly, the grieving, and those with on-going health concerns. For I know that the Lord is great, and our Lord is above all “gods” (Psalm 135:5).

Membership:  Brian and Janice Rypstra and their children Maria, Scott and Brenda are recommended for membership. According to C/O Art. 44 If there are no lawful objections, their membership will become official on July 6, 2008.

New Elders: Due to the resignation of Stu Vander Ploeg council is in need of a new elder. Since there was only 9 months left on his term and also due to the increased workload of the elders, consistory has decided to seek nominations for 2 elders for a 3 ¾  year term.

Baby Shower: There will be a baby shower for Fenanda de Vries and baby Jaelyn held at the church on Tuesday, June 24 at 7:30 pm.  Come out for an evening of good food, fun and fellowship!  Please bring a plate of goodies to share (no nuts please).  Hope to see you there!

Building and Maintenance:

·       For bookings of the the church facilities please contact Mr. Sam Salomons at 782-0088

·       Parents only are to pick up their children from the nursery on Sunday mornings

·       Sports equipment is off limits on Sunday after services

·       When using the church for any function it is your responsibility to wash all dishtowels and tablecloths and to return table and chairs back to banquet storage properly

·       It has been brought to our attention that the doors are being left open on occasion.  When you leave the church, please check from the outside if the door has properly locked.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL :  VBS is around the corner...June 30^th is almost here!  We are looking forward to an exciting week in which God is glorified as Creator through creation science materials. 

Amazon Expedition will be taught by: Melissa Petersen (Reanne Vander Scheer and Karissa Zuidhof as helpers), Annette Vande Velde (Carina Pols as helper), Simon Lievaart (Shanae Vander Ploeg as helper), Gert-Wim Sterk (Annelieke Both as helper).  Crafts will be taught by Patricia Versluis and Nynke Miedema (Robyn Makkinga as helper).  Margreitha de With will lead the music.  Many other people are involved in décor, games, babysitting, snacks and registration.  If you still need a registration form please contact Inge Meinen.  If you are able to help with snacks contact Bonnie Van’t Klooster @782-3463.  All registration forms need to be handed in by this afternoon.

          We are thrilled to welcome Mr. Lievaart who offered to become involved with VBS especially in his first week of arrival!

Calgary Study Weekend: We will be holding our annual Calgary Study Weekend this year from August 15^th through to August 19^th. We are very excited to announce that Rev. R. Bredenhof will be presenting two speeches to us entitled “Where's My Place? – Christian Choices in Education and Employment” and “Industrious Slaves and Bold Prophets – Christians in the Workforce.”  Some of the other events we are planning for this weekend include Bible studies, races, speeches, communion of saints, team and sports activities, and a kangaroo kort. If you would like to participate by leading a Bible study or making presentation, please contact us before June 30^th. Registrations will be accepted on a first come first serve basis, so don’t delay: save your spot now. Attention:  Christian School Supporters:  At the present time the government is discussing the issue of funding for Private Schools. Therefore, the Association of Independent Schools and Colleges of Alberta (A.I.S.C.A.) is asking for your help to lobby the government for more funding by writing letters to the Premier, Minister of Education and your local M.L.A.  Increased funding will greatly benefit your local Christian School . There is an information package available at your church which includes helpful guidelines.  If you need assistance in writing letters, come to L.C.S. West Campus Library on June 18, 08 from 7:00-9:00 PM. Please consider getting involved – now is the time to use your voice!

From the Voice of the Martyrs: Iran - Pray for Namvar who was arrested at his home. Namvar was previously held and tortured for baptizing Muslim converts to Christianity in the spring of 2007. Pray that he will act as a faithful witness for Christ during his detention (Matthew 5:14-16). Pray that his wife and children will rely on the Lord for comfort and strength.
